Chocolate Hazelnut Panforte

Chocolate Hazelnut Panforte

For most Italians, Christmas wouldn’t really be Christmas without a slice of panforte! Panforte literally means strong bread, as in strong in warm and fragrant spices like cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and yes, even coriander. This soft and unique dessert from Tuscany is also packed with nuts and dried fruit, and—wait for it—our signature crunchy hazelnut and cocoa spread. Nibble a slice while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee and keep the party going.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 °F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the nuts on the prepared baking sheet and roast in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with cooking spray and line the bottom with parchment paper. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, add the spices, dried fruits, flour, and cacao powder. Combine well.
  5. In a non-stick saucepan, add the honey, sugar, hazelnut cocoa spread, and butter. Cook over medium-high heat stirring continuously until the mixture comes to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat. Incorporate the chocolate chips and mix thoroughly until melted.
  6. Add the dried fruit mixture to the saucepan and stir quickly to combine. Do not over mix.
  7. Transfer to the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan.
  9. Once fully cooled, carefully unmold the panforte and refrigerate overnight.
  10. When ready to serve, dust with icing sugar and cut into slices.
